Here are 7 factually incorrect Bollywood movies that are said to be based on true stories.
Airlift
The movie made big bucks at the box office. The fact that the story is based on true life events helped Akshay get people to watch the movie and they even left the theatre content but only a few people know that the Indian ambassador was depicted as a total jackass in the movie, while in reality the ambassador had accomodated hundreds of Indians in the embassy.
Jodha Akbar
The movie portrayed this intense love story between emperor Akbar and Jodha, but we hardly think that was the case in real life. Historically, Akbar had married Jodha for political reasons and he had many more wives. So, the love story we see here is basically a work of fiction using characters that were real once upon a time.
The Dirty Picture
Based on the life of actress Silk Smitha, the movie was well recieved by the audience and almost stuck to the original story entirely. However, in the movie Silk Smitha dies due to overdose of sleeping pills; in reality, the cause of her death is still unknown.
Main Aur Charles
The movie is based on the life of notorious serial killer Charles Shobraj. In the movie, they have shown Charles escaping from a prison in Goa whereas in reality Charles never escaped any prison and is sentenced to life imprisonment.
Gulaab Gang
Based on the real gulaab gang in MP, the movie shows the characted of Rajjo who is inspired by Sampat Pal plotting revenge against the evil politician Sumitra Devi, but in reality there was no revenge of any sort taken or even desired.
Chak De India
The movie was based on the life of ex hockey player, Mir Ranjan Negi. Chak De India went to bag many awards and hearts. However, the story was altered in many ways. In the movie, the Indian women’s hockey team wins the world hockey championship, while in reality there is no such thing as a world championship in International Hockey.
Bajirao Mastani
The SLB version of this epic love saga got into some serious trouble. Thanks to SLB for altering many parts of the historic story as per his liking and convenience. Even though the movie claims to be inspired by true events in history, there is actually no historic record of Bajirao and Mastani’s romantic relationship. Now whether SLB went with his assumption or imagination, only he knows.
